I just bought a 52X CD-Writer (Mad Dog Dominator, which shows up as an
Artec WRR-52X V1.16). With 48X TDK disks, I was recording at about 8-10X
(1400-1800 KB/sec) with both Roxio and Nero.

I have an old computer (850 MHz on a PC100 bus with 768 Megs of memory),
but my 7200 RPM disks are tested at around 4.8 MB/sec (via a Matrox tool
for determining video recording quality) which should be good for at least
24X.

The hard disks are on Primary and the CD-RW is the only drive on
Secondary. I have noticed that DMA is turned off for my hard disks and for
my CD-RW, but I do get the aformentioned speed even without it.

What can I do to speed things up?

you might want to try different media to burn on...that might be affecting your
speed.

Turn DMA on. That's the one biggest culprit when it comes to "slow"
drives. Without DMA turned on, CDRW's usually max out well under 20x.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

My media is TDK. I wouldn't think that would be the problem.

DMA is turned on for all the drives (HDs and CD-RW). I just noticed Sync
Data Transfer setting for the CD-RW and turned that on. Will have to burn
another CD and try it out.
