I have a system with KT3 Ultra2 (MS-6380E V1.0) motherboard. It has run
a/o W98SE and now Win XP SP1. In either case I have not been able to
achieve automatic fan speed control for the CPU fan. The BIOS does
detect actual fan speed and responds when I slow the fan down manually.
So far I have experimented with MSI utilities (CoreCenter/cooler, PC
Alert, the MSI driver), flashing the BIOS to V5.7, using Alfredo
Milani's Speedfan.
Is there a known issue with fan speed control for these boards or should
I dig further into my particular configuration? Any hints?

TIA, Jan van Mastbergen

Hopefully someone else will come along that can give you a better answer. I
have a KT3 Ultra2, but have made no attempt to use the PC Alert utility, or
anything else, to control the CPU Fan speed. Right now MBM says my CPU fan
speed is 4800 RPM and my CPU temp is 30C. I have 4 other fans in my system
running at normal speed (well, the power supply fan has its' own thermostat)
so I don't know if controlling the speed of the CPU fan would significantly
decrease the noise output of the system.

I have never got software to control fans connected to the mobo
headers to work.

This particular problem affects the children's system. My own (older) PC
has an Asus P3BF and the fan speed control always worked perfectly, a
very quiet system. I never thought about it until the kids' PC was moved
up to our study and the noise began to annoy me.
