Cable -> Linksys BEFSR41 -> Wireless D-Link DI-714P+

I need help please. For a few years now, I have been sharing my internet
connection between 3-4 computers at home and setup a home network. It was
pretty simple: Cable connection into a Linksys BEFSR41 (into WAN connection)
and 4 lines getting out of the Linksys. 2 of the connections go to desktop
computers and 2 are used by laptops computers (mine and my wife's). I used
to VPN with my office without any problem.

Recently, I added a wireless router (D-Link DI-714P+). This router is
plugged with one of the former laptop connection coming from the Linksys. I
connect it in the WAN port of the wireless. Here are the settings for both
the Linksys and the D-Link:

Linksys



LAN IP adress : 192.168.1.1

Subnet Mask : 255.255.255.0



Wan connection type : obtain an IP address automatically



DHCP Server: Enable

Starting IP address: 192.168.1.5

Number of DHCP users: 10

DNS 1: 198.235.216.134

DNS 2: 198.235.216.135



At the time of this writing à DHCP Clients à Wireless (router)

My questions:

With that setup, the internet is working just fine on the LapTop1. A bit
slow (it sometimes seem to be confused and I guess it is, especially since
LapTop1 has 2 different IP adresses?).

The real problem is that I can no longer do VPN connection with my office.
The LapTop1 crashes deeply (it runs Win XP Professional). The VPN
connection seems to connect but LapTop1 cannot find my office LAN.

When I do a change in the Wireless Router (let's say, disable DHCP), I can
no longer get into it to make changes later (192.168.0.1 no longer
responds). I have to do a "hard reset".

Sorry for the long post, but I realy need help.

Hi Do,
I think you have to connect the LAN port of the Linksys to the LAN port of
the Dlink using a crossover cable. You can not go it to the WAN port on the
Dlink. There was some info on the Dlink web site about this but I can't find
the link. By the way I have a Dlink DI-714P+ router and posted the following
questions a few days ago, maybe you can help answer the first two.

Just hooked up this router and have 4 computers wired to the LAN ports and 1
wireless. The wireless one is using a DWL-520+ card. All computers are
working, however I have a few questions:

1) The WLAN light never lights, manual says should be lit, wireless network
does work.
2) The WAN port has two lights, on for WAN which is lit, the other for
10/100 which is not lit.
3) It does not seem like there is a way to disable WLAN portion of the
router like on the 614+, Anyone know of a way?
4) From dlink web site it does not look like they will update firmware to
enable 4X mode.
5) The link light on the 520+ card never lights.

If someone has this router can you confirm these issues. I have spoke with
dlink and was told if everything is working don't worry. I want to know if
all 714P+ routers behave the same, if not I will return it for another.
