Hello,

I have a Polaroid i832 camera.
There is a recurring dim spot on the recent photos. I'm fairly sure
that it's from a photo I'd taken toward the sun. I cleaned the
lens, but sad to say it's still happening.
Might there be anything I could do to fix it, other than
replacing the camera?

Thanks,
Mike E

Mike -
Not likely that the "dim spot" is from the sun, but we would have a
more-informed opinion if we saw a sample photo. Could you post one
somewhere for us to look at?

Most likely, you damaged the the sensor pixels where the sun
was focused. If so, it can't be repaired for less than the
cost of a new camera.

The rule I follow is to not point the camera at anything too
bright to look at. Many digicams don't have physical
shutter, so pointing the camera at the sun even when you
aren't taking a picture can do damage.

www.photobucket.com is one place you could upload pictures and share. But
since the spot didn't go away when you cleaned some more, it is defiantly
inside. Could still be a large speck of dust.

Or, as it's a one-off, just post your photo to the
alt.binaries.photos.original newsgroup with a descriptive message header
which you can let this NG know about.
