Canon PowerShot A520 won't focus in Macro mode.

Howdy: Keep trying to focus this thing in Macro. It will not do it.
It just keeps zooming past the clear focus point. And for the life of
me, I can not figure out how to use the manual focus. I have read the
instructions, meager as they are, and it just won't focus manualy. Is
this a bug in the camera or just me? Thanks for any help.
