I was looking at round IDE and Floppy cables for better air flow in the case
and noticed that for the same size and type of cable the prices go from $3
to $25.00 (depending on where you buy also). Will the cheap cables usually
work as well as the more expensive ones?

Thanks,
Lou

In my experience, they all work the same. Since
there are no specs and standards for round cables,
there are no published results of testing for the various
brands. The retailers thus charge whatever they guess
their customers will pay. Eet don' mahtter, though -
they all seem to be made by the same two or three
manufacturers in China. The only thing that I would
be careful to look for is those plastic pull tags on the
connectors. Pulling out a tagless connector without
yanking on the wires or crushing the male connector
with a pair of pliers is difficult and painful to the fingers.
If you want to be anal about them (like me), get the
cables with the aluminum or copper braided shielding
in order to minimize pickup of external signals. (They
also look really high tech.)

Over short lengths, yes.

Thanks,
I don't believe in the need for "monster" type audio/video cables either
like the way most of the chain electronics/computer retailers
(CompUSA,CicuitCity,Radio Shack) are trying to sell but its getting hard to
find regular cables without ordering online.
Looks like they are doing the same for the round PC cables although they all
look the same quality to me.

Silicon Valley Compucycle has a good combination of selection and
price for round IDE cables. Ignore the adolescent "neon" and "crayola"
cables and check out the ones with braided shielding:
