I have a newly acquired Dell Inspiron 5100 laptop that I want to add
wireless to my wired home network. I have 3 computers through a D-Link
router and want to be able to use the Laptop anywhere around the house. I
also have dialup internet and would like to preserve internet connection
sharing through the laptop as well as file share with the other computers.

What is the best configuration for this?

Ron

Replace the D-link with a wireless router. Nothing else needs to be changed...<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Can't a wireless access point be added to the existing router?<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Sure, but if you check street prices for wireless routers vs WAPs it can make
economic sense to replace the router...

Wireless access points are a ripoff compared to wireless routers -- they
cost almost as much and have less features. I'd only go buy a WAP if you
have a really large house (or a house with a lot of concrete) and the signal
strength decreases as you go from one point to another. The WAP can act as a
relay in that case.
