Hi,

I got this problem with my computer I recently built that I'm not sure about
its cause, but was hoping that maybe someone here could help me with.

The computer keeps hanging at random occations, so it's very difficult to
pin-point the excact circumstances and thus the reason for why it hangs. It
doesn't seem as it's related to any particular operations nor for how long
I've been using the computer.

One time it hanged right with the logon screen in Windows XP, another time
when I had been running BurnInTest for a while and a last time when I was
just surfing web pages.

My computer consists of the following:

Mobo: Abit KD7, VIAKT400, ATA/133
PSU: Enermax ATX 431W
CPU: AMD Athlon XP2400+ 2.0 GHz 266 MHz bus
RAM: 512MB DDR PC3200
GFX: Creative Geforce 4 Ti4400
Harddrives: 2
CD-ROMs: 2

I have no idea why this problem occur. I've also reinstalled Windows XP
after installing this new hardware, but the problem still remained.

So is there anything I can check or do to maybe overcome this issue. Any
ideas and I'll be more than greatful! Many thanks in advance!

Kind regards,

- Roy

check to see if your sys is heating up.
if you have 2 sticks of ram pull one and run sys to see if it crahses if so
swap it with the other.
try lowering the agp from 4x to 2 x in bios and test again.
if all else fails gut it and put only 1 hard drive and 1 cd drive with the
rest of stuff you must have to boot up. disable any built in stuff and test
till you find the problem

What`s the memory brand m8?
Sounds like a divide overflow error, It`s because the FSB and the RAM
operate at 266mhx and 400mhz respectively.
It`s not the memory, Not really, It`s actually the Chipset, Some of the
Chipsets out for the AMD CPU`s are incompatible with certain types/brands of
DDR400 memory modules.
You`ll probably find it`s even less stable if you try playing games and use
the Accelerators functions.
Don`t ask me what type to use, I`ve got no idea m8, Got similar problems
myself.
Been looking at all the websites and no one gives a straight answer.

Regards
CR
