Archived from groups: alt>comp>hardware>overclocking (more info?)

Hi

I have just built a system around the Asus P4C800-E Deluxe MB and am trying
in vain to cool
the CPU, a P4 3.0Ghz (800fsb) with an Aqarius II water cooling system. As
yet the system is not overclocked at all. It includes a Radeon 9800 Pro
(128) Graphics card and is built in a Thermaltake Xaser III case.

I am getting very high temps in 3DMark2003 Pro - 65C although this drops
back to
about 45/50C when under normal load and slightly lower when switched on but
doing nothing. I have read many items in the forums that this cooling
system is a pile of c**p - would anyone disagree or agree. What is the max
temp that my CPU can get to without frying? Would anyone like to offer an
alternative cooling system, whether or not water? FWIW I have installed my
system in a Thermaltake Xaser III case, which has seven case fans, my Radeon
9800 Pro has its own fan and I have a Q-Tec dual fan PSU - so I wouldn't
have thought air-flow is a problem, despite having four SATA HDD's built
into the case as well. MB temp seems stable around 28/30C. I have disabled
Asus's Q-Fan system in Bios, following recommendation but this does not seem
to help. As per instruction the Radiator fan is connected to the MB's CPU
Fan Connector and the pump to the MB's Chassis Fan Connector. However I
don't get any control. I figure that if I could increase the air flow over
the radiator and increase the water flow rate, then I could effectively
bring these temps down. However I can't!! Should I send the system back
for a refund and start over? Once everything is stable, I then want to
start some tweaking.

Help needed please!!!

TIA

Using Google, entered "Aqurius II water cooling" and got a list of reviews,
a couple listed here:

This may help.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Throwing in another link:

Comparison of CPU heat sinks

Actually your HS is not so good, there are better.

To decide what to do it your choice. I don't know, but maybe you're
doing something else wrong.
For testing purposes I would try to aim a household fan or something
alike at the radiator. Maybe the air that's cooling it in your setup
is too hot.
