Yes, it'll work. Faster memory is backward compatible
with slower applications. If you check some DDR chip
datasheets, the chips will still work at DDR200 or a
little bit slower.
If you're buying new memory, the purpose of PC4000 memory
is for overclocking. For example, if you were planning
on increasing the CPU input clock from 200MHz to 250MHz,
then owning PC4000 would be convenient for the experiment.
With PC3200 memory, you'd have to select a lower memory
divider to do that experiment.
You can also overclock some memories, above their rating.
For example, my PC3200 CAS2 memory will run at DDR460, but
with a slight increase in the timing values (slack settings).
I don't know if it would go to DDR500, because my processor
isn't good enough for that test (my processor sucks).
