Follow-up message to those kind souls who gave me advice on making my
Dragon work with 3 sticks.
I tried the various suggestions, but nothing worked. There is no CAS3
offered in the BIOS, only 2 & 2.5. I tried the sticks in various
combinations of slots, but all were unstable. At least this time I
didn't corrupt the entire machine like I did last time.
So I'm back to the single 512 stick in bank 0 and haven't seen a BSOD
for a week. But I have 2 * 256MB sticks in a drawer - what a waste!
Thanks again for the advice.
David.

I had same problem...with one 512 and one 256 system was running, but some
things were funny - like i burned CDR OK, just verifying was unsuccesfull
and CDR was wasted...Running Memtest showed tons of errors...Replaced BOTH
sticks - same result, so RAM's were OK.
Now also running with single 512 and one extra 256 in my drawer.
If you find any nice little hammer to crash those two empty slots, let me
know...<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

If you are the person who had Crucial RAM, rated at CAS2.5 - try CAS2
and see if stability improves.

Use google for timings I posted earlier.

I seem to remember way, way back when I first got my Dragon+ that I had
a 256mb that worked but when I added a 512mb I could not get them to
work at all. I stayed with the 512mb. I also seem to remember a thread,
maybe on amdmb.com or so, stating that the quality and timings for the
256mb and 512mb were different (especially with the command rate, 256mb
could handle 1T without a hitch but 512mb were stuck at 2T).

Try getting a 256mb and 512mb to work together (if you haven't already).

If you can't get that to work, I would be very interested to see the
date and model of your Dragon+ because I'll bet money the first batch of
them (before April? the ones without the mod to support Thoroughbred)
were flaky when it came to memory and certain PCI cards (USB2 have to be
in the last slot, etc.).<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Yep, that's me. I haven't got round to rebuilding the machine yet (it
works, just no case covers), so I'll give it a go, though I would have
thought that reducing the latency would make it more unstable. Both
sticks say 2.5. But with £50/$80 useless RAM in a drawer, it's worth a
shot. I'll let you know.

My machine is now exactly two years old, and I bought the motherboard
in January 2002 specifically for the RAID, which I no longer use.
Should have stuck with the original Asus... Oh well, that's the joy of
propellorheading, innit..?

That's very nice info. I'll remember that, since i guess i'll have to get
USB20 one time also.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

I've got one of these older Dragon+ motherboards and I've long since
given up trying to make it work with an Adaptec USB 2.0 card. I'm not
certain that I ever tried it in the last PCI slot though. So I take it
this is a known problem?<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

All i can say here is that i've read many times about people having problems
with USB2.0 on D+<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
