But if I don't get the right brand then it won't work. I'm going to bring a
print out of the DDR test report from Aopen's site and see if they have any
of the brands tested. If so then I'll get 2 512MB DIMMS. Otherwise I will
try and get 1 1024MB DIMM so later I can upgrade if I want to.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Of course it will. Any two DIMMs of the same size and make will do dual channel
if the mobo has that feature.
The Dual channel packaged sets are guaranteed but it's mostly marketing.

It doesn't matter how many times you tell people not to buy crap ram... they
continue to do it and then complain that it doesn't perform as well as it
should and usually blame the motherboard.

YanquiDawg: Then you come over here and see for yourself that it doesn't
work... The MB supports dual channel just the memory I have doesn't like it.
It POSTs but won't boot XP.

Ben: As far as buying cheap RAM, here were my choices... Pay $145/stick so
$290 or pay $425 (all CND$ w/o tax) for a matched pair. There was no choice
in what brand name I bought. I'm not ordering through the mail and these are
the only options at my store of choice. I don't blame the MB... The RAM is
branded "elixer" (even the chips) which I've never heard of before so I
didn't expect anything special.

In the end the machine is faster than I need, and I am a gamer, so I'm happy
with what I have and that is all that matters to me.

Crucial will sell you 256K PC3200 guaranteed to work in your board for
$70 CAD or so a pop. I've ordered many times from Crucial and never had
a problem of any kind--you're as safe ordering from them as you are
paying at the corner store--probably more so.

It can't be the memory not liking it, the memory doesn't know if it's in
dual channel or not.

I've already said there is no reason to pay a premium for a matched pair...
just get two the same. If thats what you did, then the "matched pair" will
perform no differently.

Oh... I thought you were complaining that it doesn't work Smile

It surprises me that it won't work, even with relaxed timings.

But hey, as long as you're happy... there's not a lot of gain in using dual
channel, certainly not at the expense of relaxing timings. (since you're
not using onboard video)
