I'm looking for reliable external storage. I have been using Maxtor and
WD's externals and have had problems. I'm now reading much here and
elsewhere about problems with these drives due to inadequate cooling,
and that internal storage is best.

Unfortunately, I have no more space for internal storage. I'm looking
for a way to add 300GB with RAID 1. What is the best external solution?
An additional pc doing nothing but serving files off of big internal
drives? Is there a good 2-4 bay enclosure with adequate power and
cooling? Is there something else I should be considering?

Thanks
Steve

One obvious approach there is to replace
the case with one with more space.

You sure you've filled the 5" drive bays ?

Much better to replace the case.

Sure, that can be viable, but you wont get as good
a speed as you would get with that internal instead.

Any of the smaller cases will do that fine.

Yep, replacing the existing case.

I consider that

That's not really a concern since most of the systems accessing the
drives will be over a network anyway. Perhaps that would be the way to go.

Yes, you mentioned that. Smile
