Archived from groups: alt>comp>periphs>videocards>nvidia (more info?)

Hi all,

I have just purchased and installed my New Aeolus Aopen FX5900 card. The
software supplied with the card includes a CD with some of Nvidia's demos
on. The demos like 'Dawn' , 'Wolfman' etc all run fine with the exception of
'Time Machine'. When I run this the FPS is something like 0.5.

My machine spec is P4 2.4Ghz 768MB FX5900. Can anyone give me a clue as to
why this demo which Nvidia say is OK with this card runs so slowly.

THX

Mark

See the thread "FX5900 BIOS message query..." Scott had the same kind of problem with his FX5900. The Dusk
demo was running below 2 FPS until he upped the graphics aperture size from 64 to 128 or 256MB and got around
20 FPS. It didn't work for the Vulcan demo, though.

I have tried 64 to 256, Mine just works great no matter what.

I would say that the card has faulty Ram in it..<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Just installed the very same card!
I have similar system specs to you (amd 2600+, 768mb ram) and all my demos
ran well, except the dawn ultra demo which chugged just a tiny bit. I
haven't seen the framerates for the demos, but have a 3dmark2001 score of
12970. Personally I think thats a little low, but the card runs all my games
with max settings no problem at all.
Try a few benchmarks, and have a look at the AA and quality settings. Mine
are set to 4x at the moment and it still flies.
