Failed to update BIOS

Hold down the insert key when powering on and keep holding until you see some

Thank you, Frank. I flashed the BIOS, and everything is fine now. I
followed the instruction in SOYO's KB article # S1035, which doesn't seem to
say clearly about BIOS flash. By the way, the step 7 in the KB article
says:

"After the flash process is completed, go to the BIOS and Load Optimized
Defaults, then save and exit from the BIOS"

I tried it, but I could not save the Load Optimized Defaults. When I typed
Y (Yes) to save it, BIOS setting menu didn't respond. So, I manually
configured BIOS and choose Save and Quit. Do you know why I could not use
Load Optimized Defaults.

Hmmm. Very strange, but if it ain't broke don't fix it! It works, be happy.
In case of actual disaster you can order a new bios chip from either Soyo or
http:\\www.badflash.com . Happened to me once. After I got the new chip
installed and running I sent the original back and had it reprogrammed. I
kept it as a instant backup in case I screwed up again

That's very interesting because I just flashed a Dragon Plus withthe 2ba8
Bios and suffered the same thing. Drives and CDs would just sit there an
spin indefinitely and no POST. Only thing that worked was to clear the Cmos
(short pins 2-3). After that everything was fine and the new Bios was loaded
and working.

I have another question though - According to what I've read, if the Bios
goes bad or the chip gets erased, you're supposed to be able to either
replace it or send it back for reflashing. That being the case - my question
is how can you possibly get the chip off the the PCB? It was my
understanding these puppies were hard-wired to the board...

No not the new ones, there simply in a socket on the board. Chip looks like
a small blace square about 1/2 in size setting in a brown outline. If you
look close one corner is notched so the BIOS chip will set in only one way
and there are a couple corners where you can slip in a jewlers screwdriver
or if you go to Radio Shack they make a tool to fit. With the screwdriver
you just ease up the corners working from one side to the other till it pops
out, the tool slips underneath the chip and lifts it out with a gentle pull.
