SiS debutted their 755FX chipset designed for the new 939-pin A64FX next
year. Among the things revealed is SiS is planning to incorporate a 1000Mhz
Hypertransport bus in it, up from the current 800Mhz.

http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/chipsets/display/20031113152821.html

Now since the memory controller is outside the Hypertransport bus, it
doesn't make a lot of sense to increase the speed of Hypertransport just for
peripheral i/o throughput; Hypertransport as it now stands is more than
adequate. However, it might make some sense to increase the Hypertransport
bus speed if there is some sense that a new memory standard (DDR2?) is
coming down the line, and they want to access this memory through an
external memory controller attached to the Hypertransport. During the
transition period between old memory standard the new one, you'd need a
controller mechanism for the new memory type, since it's likely that the
Athlon itself would only have support for the older one initially. Just an
idea.

I might be missing a turn of words, but...

"Sense"? We're *way* beyond "sense".

DDR2-400 is a reality, already in demo boards, and coming to a computer near
you soon, with DDR2-500 and beyond in the pipeline.
DDR1 is dead, say your goodbyes soon.

Multi-gigahertz chip and adapter interconnects are already extant in customer
demonstration boards. It's called PCI Express, it is now being operated at
2.5ghz, and you can bundle a bunch of links to dial up prodigious bandwidth.

Gigahertz front side buses should appear within the next 6 months as well...

Remember to divide by 4 or you will be raped around these parts, did you
mean 250 Mhz front side buses? As correctness police I advise immediately
cease calling 800 Mhz FSB 800 Mhz FSB and rename it to 200 Mhz FSB, so that
no one gets confused by incorrect lying and marketing drivel.

Wait, wouldn't that make things even more confusing? I don't know, I just
passing the word along (I wouldn't know herz from Hertz auto rental company
myself even if it did rape me).<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Hell, son, didn't you notice the name of the group you posted that to?

Umm, the G5/PPC970 is comp, sys, IBM, pc(in lower case), hardware, and
chips. That makes it closer to the group's charter than most articles.
