Not a good idea. Try blowing out your fan with some compressed
air and see if it helps.

No, unless you get a heatsink instead. Best to take the cover off the fan
and put a small drop of oil into the bearing. Also clean dust of the fan
blades.
Good luck.

Try just the air first. Try to avoid oiling the fan bearing if possible.

I am using the Zalmann Passive Heat Sink on my G400MAX. Has been working
fine 24/7 for about 15 months now.
Easy to remove the fan just 2 clips then you glue on the Zalmann heatsink
and wait 15 minutes. Then no noise

I've used Zalman heatsinks with success Rick, agree with you on cleaning
out dust *first*, but why are you against re-oiling the fan?
I'm sure you have a valid reason, but I have to say that I've found it
works.

The oil will muck up eventually. In most cases the problem is not
a lack of oil, it's dust and/or dirt inside the bearing.

No mine is the same as this (2nd from the bottom of the page)
<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.quietpc.com/uk/vgamb.php#zm17cu" target="_blank">http://www.quietpc.com/uk/vgamb.php#zm17cu</a>
Having said that the one I have is much simpler than the heatpipe one you
are looking at in the USA so I would expect your one to do the job far
better
They specify that your one is OK with various 7 series Radeons all of which
run far hotter than the G400MAX.
Get it you can then forget about the card totally.

CHECK that it will work with the G400MAX, it may be worth an email , the
400MAX does have 2 mounting holes so it may be allright but it is worth an
email first. Otherwise get the ZM17-CU from the UK site (they ship
everywhere) as that does work.
