Post subject: GA-6VX7-4X based system fails to boot
Archived from groups: alt>comp>periphs>gigabyte (more info?)

Hi group,

My friend's aforementioned system, with a P3 (667MHz), generic video
card, RAID controller, network card, LG cdrom drive, 2 HDDs, fails to
boot after he plugged in a DVD burner (a Liteon 16x DVD+/-R, +/- RW).
The symptoms are that the video card doesn't initialise (I have tried
two video cards, the other being a winfast titanium geforce 3), and no
signal is sent to the screen. I've tried booting for all combinations
of peripherals and the system always fails to boot.

As well as failing to boot, and no video signal, a series of beeps
(rapid succession) is produced. Does anyone know exactly what the beeps
signify? I'm guessing it's the motherboard saying "I can't see a video
card!".

Any help appreciated...

ed.
