Post subject: GA-8IK1100 rev 2 and no standby/hibernation option - ACPI problems?
Archived from groups: alt>comp>periphs>mainboard>gigabyte (more info?)

Hi,

OK I recently purchased a GA-8IK1100 rev 2 motherboard, and using win
XP Pro.

I have installed a 800hz Pentium 4 2.8 chip with 2x512mb DDR 3200
(400hz) mem

everything runs ok, but in the power section of Device Manager, i have
no hibernation setting, and I also notice that clicking 'Start,
Shutdown' does not feature a 'Standby' option.

According to Device Manager, my computer is ACPI enabled etc, and
there isn't an option in the Power Management section of the bios to
enable/disable bios (set to S1 currently).

The computer seems to shut down OK (ie everything turns off/OS shuts
down OK via system off switch or shutdown in Windows)

I've tried flashing the other bios from Gigabyte's main site
(currently back at using the original FA bios revision, but I tried FF
which is the most recent)

I've just removed the cmos battery to reset everything and I'll try
putting it back in in a while to see if this sorts out things.

Anyone else noticed this? Bug maybe?

I'd appreciate any feedback on how to get around this.

Thanks in advance All.

right click desktop, screensaver, power, hibernate. then enable. not sure
why you see a power option in device manager, not showing in mine. hibernate
is not a bios issue but an OS issue.
hope that helps

Have you loaded the chipset drivers from the Motherboard CD?
Loaded all the other required drivers from the CD too?
Have you installed the latest XP drivers for the sound and Video cards?

I have found that when building a new PC, Standby and Hibernate will not be
available until all devices have the appropriate XP drivers loaded.

Also, XP will disable Standby and Hibernate if it detects a driver that
doesn't support it.

Righto an update. thanks for the info and tips - whilst I had
installed the chipset/lan etc drivers from the mobo CD, what I hadn't
done was load the graphics card drivers - duh!!.

So installing the 'official' graphics card drivers and then rebooting
has cured this problem.

Cheers all.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
