An Update --
Turned the computer on this am and the network controller is now
working. Checked under Device Manager and found the listing for the
Intel Pro/1000 CT Network Connection under Network adapters; light
around the network jack on the motherboard is now lit. Did nothing but
left the computer off overnight.
