Hey,

My new computer has been running fine for the past weeks. But suddenly
it stopped after attaching a Sony DCR TRV-19E Digital Camcorder
through Firewire.

System:
Gigabyte GA-8KNXP
ATI Radeon 9700 128MB
1Gb
2x 120Gb Maxtor HD's in RAID mode (Serial ATA)
Toshiba DVD
Plextor CDRW (SCSI)
Hauppauge WINTV Card + IR Remote control
Adaptec AHA2940UW
Scanner 6200C
HP Deskjet 690c
HP Laserjet 1100a
USB MS Natural Keyboard
USB Logitech mouse

When I rebooted the machine and plugged in the Firewire cable, it
didn't return. No screen. The HD's are working fine, the processor
cooler light works, the IR Remote control receiver light is on, the
LAN card light is on. The power led is on, but no display! Also it
seems the system doesn't boot.

What could be the cause of this?

I think the motherboard is dead. What about the rest of my hardware???
What is the best way to go? The motherboard is brand new.

Also I tried to remove everything except for the videocard, but still
the same results.

Thanks in advance,

Dennis

Well to rule out the videocard you must try using another video card. It
probably was shocked when you plugged in the Firewire cable. It could be
anything(voltage surge, shorting, loose connection...etc).

Try another video card. You can pick up a cheap AGP videocard for about
$5-$15 at any local computer reseller. It would be worth the investment for
troubleshooting purposes. If it all works with the test AGP card then the
you know the original was bad.
