Do not know the status of this speed problem, however, a couple of points.
HD Tach is an old stand by and is no longer worked by anyone. It is
notorious for bad reports on access time.
Sandra is better.
The only Maxtor ATA 133 drive I have ( 30G ATA133 5600rpm ) shows a HD Tach
MAX of about 38MB/S and average of 31 MB/S.
So your 52.5 MAX and 41.9 AVG doesn't look that *bad*.
Is this measurement problem?
DiskSpeed32 is interesting and useful. A good look at the whole drive.
PCMark2002 has a HDD test area. It will test a file copy speed.
HD_SPEED is useful as it allows you to set the Block Size.
I have no experience with Promise. My SATA RAID and PATA RAID(s) are all
HighPoint. I have found:
Going from Master to Cable Select can make a difference.
These systems do like uniformity, perhaps fdisk to the match sizes.
The driver should match the BIOS in version number.
It appears that the faster the native drive the lower the block size should
be. Move down to 16 or 32kB.
good luck,
JPS
