Look diligently for a FX5900 128Meg non-XT, SE ( GPU 400, Mem 850
clocks )
XT/SE GPU 400 (or 390), Mem 700. Downgraded GPU heatsink, frequently
no heat-sink on memory ( slower, marginal need for heat-sink )
I bought a BFG5900/128 (genuine) from Newegg for $175
a month ago. Call of Duty full version was included, VIVO,
DVI, VGA. Overclocks to 475/925 (at least.... stopped there for
conservative GPU/Mem temperature reasons ). YMMV of course !!.
I also have eVGA 5900/128 (genuine) that I purchased last August.
Does not overclock quite as well as the BFG --- luck of the draw. Very
satisfied with both purchases. Also, the 53.03 driver is extremely
stable for the FX5900.
Avoid the new 56.56_WHQL driver.... it has some "issues". It is posted
on the eVGA web-site for the past few days, but nVidia has not yet
posted it on their site, so they may be having some second thoughts.
For example, it has distinct problems with the Far Cry demo.....
Check specs carefully for any FX5900 you are contemplating buying.
If GPU and Mem clock speeds are not explicitly quoted --- avoid like
the plague. Ignore bundled software in making your choice !!!
