I have a couple of LCD monitoes (newer/bigger one is a Gateway FPD2485W), whichhave the
standard matte finish screen. I've been really impressed with the subjective added sharpness
on the glossy screen of my Macbook.

Can anyone recommend a 22 or 24" LCD with a glossy screen? Or anti-recommend one?
I want a new monitor (the 24" is at work), in the 22-24" range, and would like to at least
consider glossy ones.

Constraints: the monitor has to be 400 or more nits in brightness, which lets out most 22"
that I've sen.

And I don't like glossy bezels (create too many distracting reflections).

Thanks,

Andy Barss

I'm pretty happy with my HP 2207w. They also have a 24" unit. Only problem
with these is that the bezel is a bit glossy.

Try to find a shop which has the monitors you're interested in
side-by-side, and compare them there, perhaps with imagery you brought
yourself.

Regards, Patrick.

So do glossy screens. I do like the fact that glossy screens give a
richer black though but that is purely due to the optical coating on the
glossy screen. Still, I don't like reflections on my screen so opted for
matte screen. The HP that the other person mentions is a nice LCD
though. I have glossy bezel and the reflections on the bezel don't
distract my eyes. A glossy screen would though unless I was to use it in
almost complete darkness.

If your in-house lighting interferes with a glossy screen (and it
certainly can, if the LCD is for instance located close to a window), then
the reflections can indeed be quite bothersome.

I don't use my HP w2207 in complete darkness, and still like it a lot.
Whenever I visit a local electronics store, I usually take a peek around
the computer monitor department, and it never ceases to amaze me how much
'brighter' and more 'colorful' the HP 22" and 24" units look.

Of course, that probably makes them total garbage for any serious photo
editing work, but for games I must say I like it a lot. Wink

Regards, Patrick.

: So do glossy screens.

Sometimes. But the screen is one plane, whereas the bezel is curved,
so no matter where the lights are, the bezel picks up a bit of glare.

I'm the reverse, I guess.

My bezel is not rounded, it is flat. My eyes don't focus on the bezel
when using it anyway so I guess my brain filters out any reflections.
Either way it is not an issue for me but a glossy screen can be. I like
the fact I can still read my screen easily even in full daylight with
the window blinds open. Could never do that with my old CRT and had to
close the blinds during the day. Now I don't feel so much like a vampire.
