HELP! Backspace&Word

Hi,
I've a trouble because my back-space doesn't work anymore. If I selected a
text and then I pushed this key, my text was erased. Now, if I push this key
after text was selected, it doesn't disappear. The cursor moves only at the
beginning of the text. This trouble occurs only within Word, while it
doesn't occur with others text editor (note pad, word pad). Why? What can I
do? I'va OFfice 2003 and my laptop has Windows XP professional as OS.

MS Word -> Tools -> Options -> Edit -> typing replaces selection should be
ticked
