HELP! SATA on 848-P v 2.0

no matter what setting i use in bios sata not "seen"?? i have disabled and
removed the primary IDE cable( i know for a fact that this board won't do
both at once) but in the past i did use a 80 gig, but this new 160 gig is
giving me fits!! what mode(i.e. "enhanced,sata only,combined, or auto" and
with or without the primary IDE disabled or not?? seems i have tried them
all ways a couple of times.
i wonder if i have to clear cmos, didn't have to before??
