Hey guys,
I just got myself a max3, but the problem i have is that i don't have one
SATA drive...
Basicly i have 4 hard drives and 2 cd roms (one scsi CDRW and one IDE DVD
ROM)
So i have put one drive on the standard ATA100 IDE1 port, and another on the
2nd ATA100 IDE2 port, then slaved the DVD ROM on IDE2
This is fine as those two drives are ATA100 anyway.. but then i have a 80GB
ATA133 8MB Cache Maxtor and a 120GB ATA133 8MB Cache Maxtor, i have used 2
SERILLEL1 ports that came with my old motherboard (IT7-MAX2V2.0) to connect
these two drives, i have tried them in both SATA1/2 and SATA3/4 (incase 1
and 2 are conflicting with IDE 1 and 2)
But i can not get the motherboard to detect even 1 hard drive or CD Rom
The only thing i can think of is either the IDE does not like having two
devices on it, or that i have setup the SERILLEL wrong, or that it needs a
SERILLEL2 connector
PLEASE can someone that has set this up let me know how that did it, as i am
getting closer to thinking that the boards dead ....
Thanks,

This board and all IC7/IS7 series boards require Serillel-2 adapters, not
Serillel-1. you cannot use Serillel-1 adapters. for the board to not even
detect the devices that are on the PATA ide channels tells me that you also
have something else going on with respect to the bios settings or something
like that.
I run the IC7-G and the bios settings are not the same in some cases but
running the Onchip SATA in enhanced mode usually results in that controller
being used as a regular ide controller along with the PATA channels. The SI
controller will show as a SCSI/Raid controller even if the raid bios ROM is
not enabled, at least that is where it shows on my system under device
manager.
see the Abit forums for a real good walkthrough on setting up the ide and
SATA controllers for the IC7 series and I think there is something there
specific to the IC7-MAX3 but not positive about that. but get some
additional Serillel-2 adapters (the IC7-G came with one and not sure if the
MAX3 does or not...) before you expect things to work on the SATA
controllers. all drives on the SATA controllers need to be ATA100 as well,
according to the manual and ATAPI devices should be on the regular IDE
channels (as you have them...)

Thanks Tom!!
I thought it may have been something to do with the perillel2 stuff,
unfortunatly, the board does not come with any (altho my old IT7-MAX2v2 did,
but only serillel1) i shall order some now and give it a go tomorrow, i
shall also go have a look at the abit forums for that post
Thanks again

I got silicon sata (3,4,5,6) working on my ic7-max3, but my drives don't
work, when I plug the stuff into the intel sata.
I sort of think I need a real stata hd for the intel stata...
Any ideas?
