Hello everybody! I have set up little linux server baser on the old AT
Shuttle HOT-555 mainboard. I want to connect ADSL modem to this server -
unfortunately, the USB connector was missing. I have bought the
connector, but the problem is I don't know which pin on this connector
is #1 - there are no signs on the mobo - no "1", or "+"... The USB
connector is located just at the edge of mainboard and one end is close
to the edge. I suppose this pin is #1, but please assure me Very Happy because I
don't want to destroy my precious modem....

The manual can be found at <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="ftp://ftp.shuttle.com/Manuals/en/555/" target="_blank">ftp://ftp.shuttle.com/Manuals/en/555/</a> , but the
manual only tells you which pins belong to the USB not the pinout. The
Shuttle USB connectors were setup up with a missing pin so you could not set
them up incorrectly. So, if you don't have an official Shuttle USB
connector, I would suggest you buy a PCI USB 2.0 add-on card, or if speed is
not an issue, you could probably find a real cheap USB 1.0 PCI card. You
might want to look at the shuttle ftp site for little newer board such as
the HOT-569 or HOT-591P, where I think the USB pinout is included. They
should be the same. Those boards had the pinout for each side reversed so
they couldn't be installed backwards.
