Archived from groups: alt>comp>periphs>mainboard>shuttle (more info?)

My brother gave me an old retired computer with:
Shuttle HOT-681v Motherboard
Celeron 433 cpu. He had it over clocked to 525 with the FSB at 75mhz
8GB hard drive
AGP video

Not a lot by today's standards, but it beats my 350mhz AMD K6-2 and
PCI video.

What I need to know is:

What is the largest hard drive it will support. I have two 60ghz
drives and am not willing to lose them.

If it does not support 60 or larger, is there a BIOS update that will?
And where can I find it?

Also, his wife's motherboard failed and lead him to retire a Pentium
III 933 which I can have if the HOT-681V can use it. Can it?

I appreciate any help you can give. Thanks.

Carl

Try them. If your bios doesn't accept that size, then buy a PCI
ATA66/100/133 IDE card. Most of the newer ones have their own bios to
support larger drives. Won't hurt to try though. Just install the latest
bios for the mobo at <a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="ftp://ftp.shuttle.com/BIOS" target="_blank">ftp://ftp.shuttle.com/BIOS</a> You can probably find a
promise ATA 66 or 100 PCI card for cheap on Ebay or other online. Just make
sure you have the right bios for your mobo. Don't get confused with the
numbering. Sometimes shuttle has boards like the 681 v1 and 681V. One
board has an intel chipset, the other a VIA (the V). Just look at your
chipsets on the board.

Have fun
Tom
