I am just about to upgrade RAM on a MSI 6340 with chipset VIA KT133.
The RAM will be SDRAM PC133. At present the FSB is set at 100Mhz, but
looking at CMOS, there is the facility to set FSB at 133Mhz. I
understand that AMD locked the CPU from beinfg overclocked. If I do
this (a) Will this affect the CPU speed (Duron 700) and temperature, or
(b) have no effect whatsoever on either the CPU or the FSB speed?

My second problem is upgrading my system software. My BIOS appears to
be locked to the OEMrecovery CD version of Windows 98SE. I suggest
that because on booting up, the OEM logo of the manufaturer comes up. I
want to do a clean install of Windows 2000 (an OEM generic MS version)
on the machine. If I try to tinstall this, would the BIOS prevent me
from doing so?

Frank

Not sure what you mean by 'timings', but CPU temp is showing as 36.2 C
and FSB now showing 133 Mhz on SANDRA and 66 Mhz on Belarc.. I think
I'll trust SANDRA. I tried to run my new 256MB PC133 SDRAM module with
my old 64MB PC133 SDRAM, but it didn't work out. Seemed to crash my
system and cause corruption of some driver files, and I could only boot
into Safe Mode. When I removed the old SDRAM, still had the same
trouble, and my PC could not see my CDROM drive. The 'System' folder
was also absent from control Panel. After trying several things,
including a Scan/disk with Fix errors, this showed numerous file
errors. But running MEM/C in DOS showed nothing wrong with new memory.
In the end, I re-installed new Windows over problem one, and now that
seems to have sorted out the trouble.
