Help! 7VIF4 Audio Problem

A bad motherboard? Bad driver? BIOS problem?

Just received and installed this new yesterday. Loaded audio drivers from
VIA motherboard CD, but still no audio. I am using Windows 98se. Device
manager says that the device is working properly. The BIOS is set to "Auto"
for the audio device. Still no speaker icon in the tray. In control panel
there is no audio playback or recording device in under multimedia icon, and
none selectable. I've tried countless times to uninstall and
reinstall....still no audio.

Is this a BIOS issue. The board is brand new from newegg.com. Would an
update take care of this?
