I have a problem installing an external CD-ROM (IBM 20x model 1969) on a
Thinkpad 560E running Windows 98SE. The CD-ROM plugs into a PCMCIA card
(which I think acts as an IDE adaptor?). When I run the setup program on
the floppy that came with the CD-ROM drive, I get an error message saying
something like "PC card services not started". Does anyone know how to
rectify this? Do I need to first install drivers under DOS etc?
Windows 98 was installed on a blank hard drive after the setup files were
laplinked across (i.e. there was never any CD support on this machine).
The IBM support site says that PC Card Director is not required under
Windows 98 for a 560E - but is anything else needed? Do I just need to get
Card Services running somehow - IBM website says this is built into Win98
anyway. The laptop was supplied to me as is without any other software.
I would greatly appreciate any assistance.
