You have SATA power, SATA data and a 4 pin audio out for playing CDs
directly. The latter is optional - if you play music (not mp3) CDs in your
PC, then connect it to your sound card's line in. If you don't play CDs,
then don't bother.

This jpg image matches what I have exactly. It is the smaller of the
2 connections for which I don't have any connector-cable. I presume I
must connect that connector to my MOBO? With what I don't know.
I have Google'd the subject, but so far have found nothing.

This is the exact ad from which I bought the thing from Newegg. I
didn't notice Gaf4r's bad comment about the drive, so I guess even if
I come with a cable, I might still have trouble getting it to run.

The Serial ATA (SATA) 150/300 data cable - Right Handed - 0.75m that I
see might work. I can't tell how big the ends are, so that I don't
know which of the two connectors on the rear of the drive that cable
would fit. Since the PSU power connectors include one that fits the
bigger of the two drive connectors, can I assume that the cable you
point out will be the data cable I need to connect the drive to one of
the two SATA headers on my MACHSPEED mobo?

The drive does power up by the way (the bay opens/shuts).

According to the Machspeed description for the motherboard, there should
have been a SATA data cable in the box. They come with different options
for the connectors on the ends of the cable. Whether you choose to
use straight, right angle, left angle, depends on the space limitations.
Some cables also have a retention feature, that helps hold the connector
into the motherboard. The original SATA were pretty loose.

I advise that you take the comments on NewEgg with a grain of salt. No,
I take that back. Take them with a whole handful of salt and a ton of
skepticism too. Many of those posting comments are so amazingly clueless
it is hard to imagine that they managed to place an order in the first
place. If you see one or two bad comments and an overwhelming number of
good ones you can assume that the bad comments are of little value. In
the case of this drive you will notice that it has been rated as one of
the best that NewEgg sells based on ratings and sales.

As for cables, it couldn't be easier: there are two -- the bigg'n is for
power and the little'n is for signal. If you don't have the former you
can get a cheap adapter to go from the regular old 4-pin AMP PS
connector. If the latter you need to get yourself a cable and these come
in various end types (straight, left, right), various lengths, and
with/without latches where applicable, but that is about it. The
right-angle connectors can be very useful in cramped cases but you have
to watch that you buy one which bends the correct direction or you might
make a bad situation worse. Don't buy the cheapest junk you can find and
you should be fine.

True, but at the same time it's often that people give
relatively terrible products a good review. Personally I
ignore everything except the negative comments and reject
those too unless they mention enough specifics to gain
credibility, enough to be confirmed through a 2nd source.

I have ordered a few cables - should have them in a few days. Then I
hope the drive will work for me.
