Archived from groups: comp>sys>ibm>pc>hardware>storage (more info?)

We recently purchased some Dell PowerEdge 2850 servers and want to put some
of our existing IBM ServeRAID 4m controllers in them. Unfortunately, the
2850 hangs when it gets to the ServeRAID bios. It sits there saying that it
performing a self test that could take as long as 3 mintes. A
control-alt-delete does reboot so it's not a solid hang, but that bit of
info doesn't help much. We've been in contact with Dell but they haven't
been any help. We purchased the latest ServeRAID 6m card but the results
were the same. Is there anyone out there using ServeRAID cards in non-IBM
servers?
