Hi all -
I just purchased an IC7-G with 2 SATA drives. I also have an IDE CD-ROM
drive. How should I configure the drive settings in the BIOS so that my 2
SATA drives are recognized as the first IDE drives in the system and the
CD-ROM is 3rd?
Thx!

well, you have a couple of choices... you can set the SATA controller to
Enhanced mode and leave the raid mode set disabled. in that event, the
controller will remain a regular IDE controller and you should be able to
set the device priority in the Boot Priority menu.
or, you can set enhanced mode again and set raid mode to enabled and raid
ROM enabled and then you would still set the boot priority in the priority
menu and on top of that, you also have the boot order where you get to set
the order that the system looks at the boot devices such as the device set
in the boot priority menu, the floppy drive and the CD-ROM drives, etc.

Thanks Tom!
I forgot to mention that I will not be using RAID on the board (at least not
now).
Can you (or anyone) clarify this for me.
In the BIOS under Intergrated Perihperals, OnChip Serial ATA, if I want 1
SATA drive to be IDE 1, the other SATA drive to be IDE 2 and my CD-ROM to be
IDE 3, should I set it as follows:
Combined Mode
SATA1 = IDE1 Master
SATA2 = IDE1 Slave
That leave CD-ROM as IDE 2.
Will this give me the best configuration for what I want?
Or should I just leave the setting at Auto and plug my SATA drives into
SATA3 and SATA4?
Maybe I am making this more complex then it is, but this is the first time
I've played around with SATA....
TIA

I choose Enhanced mode. not sure where the various channels end up and I
really didn't worry about it because I was still able to set my boot device
and boot order, etc. the advantage of using the Intel SATA in raid mode is
that your data path is off the PCI bus and has somewhat of a dedicated
communication channel. a post out there by Richard Hopkins details the data
path but suffice it to say, the Intel SATA controller does not communicate
on the PCI bus when in raid mode with the raid ROM enabled. by the way, you
can have raid mode and the raid ROM enabled and still use that controller in
a non-raid setup.
