According to the Abit spec, the board only supports
533/800 MHz processors. Your 1.7 is a 400MHz.
You need to try a 533 or 800 MHz processor in your board
to verify that the problem is indeed the processor.
If it is, I suggest that you sell the 1.7 on Ebay and
invest in a real Pentium processor. With your choice of
memory and some real 533 or 800 processors, you may
have to run the memory at CPU/MEM ratios of 4:5 or
5:4 for best results. PC3200 or higher would have
been a better choice.
Do not throw out the baby with the bathwater....
