Post subject: IXUS 400 CF card slot cover

is this meant to slide up and down a little? like aaround half a millimetre?

it gets annoying holding the camera feeling it slide up and down

I don't hold my S400 by the CF slot door.
Yes, it does slide up and down an insignificant amount.
