Sorry to repost, but after I read my Subject line, I realized it sounded
like a Penis Enlargement ad. . .

All,
I currently have a k7n2-Delta L with a AMD 1800+, and I am on the market
for a new video and sound cards. I am looking for the best bang for the
buck as well as compatibility with the MOBO. I believe I have a 200wt power
supply, and I am looking for a 300wt. Any recommendations welcome!

JB

personally I would go larger than 300watt...find a name brand company..eg
Antec,Enermax..Kingwin and buy the largest PS you can afford ( without going
overboard)..this new systems recommend a minimum..300 watt....I have a 365
in my KT4VL..and my Asus rig has a 465...both Enermax.

also..as for video..try to go ATI..they seem to be outperforming the Nvidia
chipsets lately..a little research at sites might help narrow it down. I
currently have an FX-5600-256 in one system and the other is a Ti4200VTD-8X.
The older Ti is faster but you can see different graphics depending on the
game..mainly COD. I had thought I was upgrading but I really did not with
the FX..should've held out for a Raedon 9600XT. I pulled out my SB-Live and
am running the on-board Soundstorm. It solved a lot of little hic-cups I was
suffering while gaming..and the sound is actually better..the kids are also
running the on-board VIA sound..but I might put the live in that rig.

Same board, I have an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro and a SB Audigy 1. Works great.

So currently, for something similar you'd be looking at a 9600XT (~$200
USD) and an Audigy2 (~$80 USD).

But I have an Antec Tru-Power 430W PSU. Which was well worth the $70 I
paid for it.

I have this board as well and as far as I can see the on-board sound is
crap. I can't play any (WarCraft3, Q3, ect.) game without it locking up
after only a few minutes, never had that problem with my SB 5.1.

Also, there doesn't seem to be a way to alter the bass/treble settings
in the Advanced volume settings. How is this on-board better than an SB?

ive played games with no trouble at all. infact ive never had any problems
what so-ever with the onboard sound. it must be down to drivers or resources
that caused your problems

true - there is no way of altering treble and bass with the onboard but if
you've got decent speakers you can alter the settings on them.
i was going to post a msg in the sounblaster group about my 5.1 card but
couldnt be bothered.
the reasons i think its worse is -

theres shit all bass coming out of my speakers with the sb card even though
ive adjusted the software and speaker settings to max.
my speakers sound really cheap, tinny and trash since fitting the sb card
but with the on-board they sounded quite decent.
i downloaded what creative call the latest drivers for my card to see if it
would improve the quality at all and upon running the .exe it first tells me
that theres no sb card in my system so i then extract all the files to a
temp folder and try updating drivers through device manager. it finds the
new drivers, crashes my comp, i restart only to see that device manager
reports the *NEW* drivers as being 6 months older than the ones that came
with my card. and i couldnt then get all 6 speakers to work and i have
various other problems like crashes, freezes, re-starts.
obviously a driver problem here.

so you tell me - how is the sb better than on-board ?
