Hi,

I would like to lower the CPU-voltage (and the FSB but it always freezes
when changing it on-the-fly) to save energy. Neither the latest official
BIOS nor the OC-BIOS (CheepoBios CHB0327.ROM from 08-20-2003) give
access to the voltages.

My CPU is a mobile Athlon XP 1800+ (Thoroughbred) that should
(hopefully) work fine with lower voltage.

I just read that it is possible to flash the K7S5A with a BIOS from the
K7S5A2 (AWARD instead of AMI). This BIOS is accompanied by several
errors (for the K7S5A of course) but also brings the possibility to
change the CPU-voltage!!
That would mean a great power-saving advantage without a IMHO tricky
vcore-MOD. Those several errors are unaceptable to me but it shows what
great functions of the K7S5A can be revealed that are obviously
available on this board!

So,
first: Can someone who flashed his K7S5A tell me which voltages become
available with the K7S5A2's AWARD BIOS?

second: Did someone get the goal to lower (or raise) the CPU-voltage
permanent by setting a value in the AWARD BIOS, flashing then back to
AMI BIOS and keep the new voltage?

Thanks a lot!

WHY would anyone want to do this? If it saves even 10 WATTS (which it will
NOT) for an entire year at 12 cents per kilowatt, it would save a maximum
of $10.50 for an entire year. That's enough to light up one small Christmas
tree bulb for a year.

It is always prudent to evaluate ones motives before undergoing a big
project which may be hazardous to your computer.
