I've been using this board for around 2 years, only using it for a
couple of hours a week. I then built a new pc, and didn't use this one
for a couple of months.
I swapped out the hard drive for a smaller one to make a pc for
someone else, but now it boots with the above error, and I have to
press F1 to change the clock or F2 to carry on booting with the
incorrect time.
A restart is no problem, but if the pc is shut down and restarted
after 10mins, the error occurs again. It seems fine when it's up and
running. It just doesn't seem to be able to hols the CMOS settings.
I've checked the battery voltage - 2.92, so I installed a new one -
3.08v. Same problem. I've cleared the cmos, and even adjusted the
battery spring clip to ensure a better connection, but the error is
still there on boot.
Any other ideas for a fix? The board is Rev 3.1, and the original
bios.
TIA

Try a new CMOS battery.

Try updating your BIOS to the latest release, it never hurts. I'm using
HoneyX OC1209B and it works great.
However, if it's not a battery problem, I don't know what that could be.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: K7S5A 3.1 CMOS/GPNV checksum error |

Try clearing the CMOS again, but make sure the unit is unplugged either at
the wall or at the main power connector from the power supply unit to the
motherboard. Now use the clear CMOS jumper.
Just thought I'd mention this in case you hadn't done it.
I also would recommend flashing the BIOS to the HoneyX 021209. I use that
BIOS on my rev 3.1.

Yup - new battery didn't work.
I'll try the bios upgrade - I just remembered that I also changed the
power supply for a cheapie one as I'd modded the old one for
quietness. I may swap that back in to see if that has anything to do
with it.

Apparently there's a resistor mod that can help, so that would be a
last resort.
Thanks to all who replied.

Seems that was the problem!
Swapped the cheapie 300w PSU out and replaced it with a 230w PSU from
my Gigabyte/1200TBird pc, and now it retains the bios info and no
longer has a startup error. The PSU that appears to be the cause works
perfectly in the other pc too.
A bit strange, but at least the problem is fixed....

Though I have no data to support this comment, it strikes me the
backup power signal from one supply could be less stable or have
spikes on the line during power up/down events thus attributing to
such problems.
