Hello!

My previous PC Layout:
- K7S5A Mainboard Elitegroup (BIOS Update installed)
- SIS 735 Chipset
- 1GHz AMD Athlon
- GeForce2 Ti 64MB
- 320MB SD RAM
- Win XP Pro

Modification Setup 1:
- SDRAM removed
- 2x512MB DDR 1 RAM 184pol, PCI 2100 (different manufacturer)
installed.

---> RAM works fine. CPU/RAM Clock 100/133
---> PC works fine

Modification Setup 2:
- AMD Athlon Thunderbird 1400MHz

---> CPU/RAM Clock 100/133
---> PC works fine, but just with 1050MHz

The computer doesn't boot if CPU/RAM Clock 133/133 (should be
1400MHz).

Some forum postings indicate that there might be a problem with RAM
modules of different manufacturers. So I tested the PC with just one
module on different positions.
Also I tested other RAM modules always without a result.

Also I changed the BIOS setup of latency. No result.

The mainboard manual says, the board supports 1400MHZ.

What might be the problem?
RAM or CPU?

Would you please give me some advice on this matter?
Any help is appreciated!

Thanks!
Oliver Ott

Did you try the HoneyX BIOS? Look through the forums on this site:

Maybe you can find an answer.

I have an old K7S5A Pro motherboard somewhere in a pile of boxes. It was the
worst ever with all sorts of problems. It quit working a few years back. Be
sure to examine the electrolytic capacitors for buldging or leaking as that
could be your problem. If you look through a few trash cans on garbage day
you will likely find a much better mother board for free.

Good luck,
Kent

Boot up using 100/100 or 100/133 speeds, change the memory timings to
match the quality of your memory sticks, use SPD settings if
available, otherwise, use higher timing values (safer or conservative
values) until you get a boot at 133/133 speeds. You don't need the
Honeyx BIOS to accomplish 133/133 speeds.

Hi!

Thanks for the feedback!

I've tested a lot during the last week. After changing the power
supply unit the PC worked fine.
The strange thing is, after rechanging the power supply unit to the
one used before the board also started in 133/133 mode.

That is the actual status. So probably the cause was some sort of a
problem with the electrical connector on the board.

Regards
Oliver
