I also posted a similar article on alt.comp.hardware before
finding this group. I have updated the BIOS on my mobo to
version six but cannot get the thing to post. This cpu is
working in another machine so I know that is not the problem.
Do I need to change a BIOS setting or jumper to use this cpu?

I have it currently running with a 700 MHz Athlon currently
running.

Thanks,

fyb

Are you sure the K7T Turbo supports the AMD Athlon XP 1800+
I see that confirmation only for the K7T Turbo2

Also they call the current Bios version 3.6 and not "six"

Yes the K7T Turbo does recognize the 1800 when it is flashed to the
latest bios. I moved from a 700 in a K7T Turbo to an 1800 a couple of
years ago. Initially, I had a problem getting it to boot at 133 mhz
but I reset the bios and then ran the processor for a while on the 100
mhz speed. After a few days, it booted at 133 and recognized the
processor as an 1800. It would never re-boot consistently though; I
generally had to shut the power off. I eventually switched to a turbo2
which is a much more stable board.

After reading your response I'm even more sure the K7T Turbo doesn't
(really) support the AMD Athlon XP 1800+ processor and the K7T Turbo2 does.

My question is what FSB is your XP2400? I just moved a unlocked XP Barton 2500, 166 FSB, to a MSI
turbo 2 board that was running an OC 1400,133FSB just fine. The max multiplyer I can get to work
is 12.5 which = 1.666Ghz at the boards max of 133FSB. I know the Turbo 2 board can't set the high
multiplyer, or 5th bit and have tried the wire socket mod to pull it up but it will not even boot.
Yes I have been running BIOS 3.6 for a time. Any ideas? it seams such a wast of the unlocked
Barton 2500.

It's running at 133fsb at the default setting of like 15 or something...
i just have it set as default in the bios. And I had this bios take care
of the rest. I've ran my Athlon 1.2 at 150 FSB before running at 1.4 Ghz

Thank you for the reply. It is as I thought you have a 133FSB XP, my 2500 Barton is a 166FSB and
will not respond to a multiplyer higher than 12.5. Thats why your works and mine doesn't.
Thanks again
