Post subject: K7V Dragon Plus and Hard Drive Size
Archived from groups: alt>comp>periphs>mainboard>soyo (more info?)

I have been running a Maxtor 80GB 7200, ATA-133 drive as my Master on IDE Ch
1, with a Maxtor 120GB 7200, ATA-133 drive as my Slave on IDE Ch 1.

Today I went to install a Maxtor 120GB 7200, ATA-133 drive as my Master (to
replace the 80GB and leave the Slave 120GB in tact). I ran PowerQuest's
DriveCopy to get all the data from the 80GB to the new 120GB drive.

When I went to boot up, the system detected NO IDE drives in this PC.

My question is, does the Soyo K7V Dragon Plus support a drive larger than
80GB as the Primary Master for booting or not? My BIOS is at 2BA7.

I thought this BIOS could support 130MB drives, but it may be on the Promise
Controller.

(I did try my drive on the Promise controller and that didn't see the Master
either)

TIA,

-Tom

4. New Promise BIOS(ver:2.0.00.23), can support 130GB or higher HDD

The first link refers to the VIA chipset IDE 1 and 2 channels, not the
RAID/Ultra (IDE 3 and4) channels which are supported seperately. I can
safely say IDE 3 and 4 doesn't support HD's over 137GB when used in the
non-RAID Ultra mode. I don't know if the RAID mode actually supports HD's
larger than 137GB as I don't use it.

That would be a pity since I am chasing after a 180 GB HDD and I have
no interest in RAID.

I always believed that the new BIOSes supported such a HDD at least on
IDE3+4 Sad
