I'm running an ECS K7VZA ver3 mobo w/ 37 bios (latest one), XP2000+ chip,
Hercules 4500 Kyro2 64 meg card, 1 stick 512 M of Kingston ram, Maxtor 40g
7,200 rpm drive, Enermax 350 watt PS, latest drivers on everything and...I'm
freezing up. I upgraded the PS and chip last weekend from an AMD 1g and a
300 watt PS, and it's been re-boot central over here since then. It can
happen during any program; mail, IE6, Wolfenstein, whatever. Before the
upgrade, I was stable and crashed maybe every 7 or 8 weeks if that, but now,
it's every 20 minutes or less. Can anyone shed some light on why this might
be happening, and what I could do about it?
thanks
RS
PS, I also posted this in the alt.homebuilt NG, hope no-one minds TOO
much... >> Stay informed about: K7VZA and XP2000= |

I'd also like to add that on occasion, at boot up, the machine doesn't even
post, I have to re-boot. After 2 or 3 times, it boots normally. Bothersome,
eh?

I hate to say this Rusty but I had exactly your problem and it took me
almost a year on and off to solve it. I was running a very similar system to
yours and it always locked up. I tried replacing virtually every component,
driver and BIOS without success. In the end, I gave up and bought a K7S5A
board and rebuilt the machine with all the same components. Guess what? The
same thing happened! I began to suspect the PSU, a supposedly high quality
350w Antec. I replaced the power supply with a Q TEC 550w and the problems
were immediately solved. I have since rebuilt the K7VZA machine and it is
running faultlessly. So my advice is to try a big PSU and I mean big! Good
luck!<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: K7VZA and XP2000= |
