My new MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum mainboard is working fine, except two things
that worry me.
First, after each cold boot (if I shut down the PC and switch it on a few
seconds/minutes later the problem doesn't occur), my USB devices aren't
being recognized by Windows XP Service Pack 2 and have no power. If I plug
them out and plug them back in, they have power and are recognized by
Windows XP again (Windows reintalls the drivers). Just using 'Scan for
Hardware Changes' in the device manager doesn't work, I have to unplug/plug
them back in.
Second, the FSB of my mainboard/CPU/RAM seems to be automatically
overclocked by 1 MHz (201MHz), even though it is set to 200MHz in the BIOS
(It won't go lower). This gives my Athlon 64 3500+ processor the effective
clockrate of 2210MHz instead of 2200MHz. Is there any way to set the FSB
back to 200MHz without MSI's auto overclock? I have disabled dynamic
overclocking and spread spectrum in the BIOS, so that shouldn't be the
problem. Also, the BIOS says it is running at 200MHz FSB/2200MHz CPU, but in
Windows XP the device manager, SiSoft Sandra, Everest and CPU-Z all read the
FSB is running 201MHz and the CPU speed as 2210MHz. I don't really want to
overclock anything right now and I suspect it might be the cause of the
first problem, so I really would like to set the FSB back to the specified
range.
I installed the latest drivers and BIOS (also reset CMOS after updating that
one) that Live Monitor has found have been installed without any change. >> Stay informed about: K8N Neo2 Platinum - USB devices not working after cold boo.. |
