Post subject: New K8T NEO won't boot into BIOS
Archived from groups: alt>comp>periphs>mainboard>msi-microstar (more info?)

I'm a computer fixer but new builder -

New setup - first turn on, I get only the first MSI logo and am therefore
unable to DEL into BIOS setup. The D-Bracket cycles through several
combinations, but stops with red on 1 and green on 2, 3, and 4. The manual
says this means:

"Boot Attempt - This will set low stack and boot via INT 19h"

The only PCI card is the video. I did try disconnecting all the drives.
Nothing ever happens beyond the first MSI logo. I didn't try changing any
front panel connections. The power light does come on and the power switch
functions properly.

?????

Parts:

MSI K8T NEO MS-7602 (V.1.X) ATX Mainboard
Antec case w/350 PS
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ kit
Geil DDRAM 512MB PC-3200 x 2 = 1Gig RAM (tried different memory)
Samsung 120MB SATA HD x 2 connected to Promise SATA, hope to become RAID 0
1 CD-R/RW
1 Floppy
3 year old AGP Dell nForce video card (temporary until I install my ATI
All-In-Wonder 9600 Pro)

Any help much appreciated. (remove [remove] for correct E-mail
address)

I think this means it is trying to boot from a add-on controller,
maybe since no other boot devices exsist.

You should still be able to enter the BIOS by hitting DEL, the MSI
logo is hiding the POST screen.

Make sure your Dell video card is not 3.3v, as these are not
compatable with most new motherboards. If you have a ATI AIW 9600 why
not use that.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Chris,

Re " I think this means it is trying to boot from a add-on controller, maybe
since no other boot devices exsist.",

can you elaborate?

Re "You should still be able to enter the BIOS by hitting DEL, the MSI logo

the keyboard, DEL-etc, doesn't do anything. No hint the keyboard is alive.
(I did try a different keyboard.)

Re " Make sure your Dell video card is not 3.3v, as these are not

I tried the ATI 9600 and it doesn't change the behavior. ????
