Has anybody installed a Zalman CNPS7000A-AlCu heatsink in their K8T
Neo motherboard? If so, does it fit? Is the installation easy or
painful? Thanks in advance.

It sure doesn't seem to like MSI boards. You need the four mounting
holes and I don't see those on this board. Handy with a drill?

I have that cooler on my A7N8X and love it. Dead quiet even at high
speed. Of course, since it is very overclocked, you can't hear it over
the case fans blasting away. Back at normal speeds with the case fans
off, you can't hear it.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

The K8T is an Athlon64 motherboard, so it's socket 754. There's no
information on that webpage about which socket 754 motherboards are
supported - it just says "Coming Soon"<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Oh, good point. It came with three types of attaching hardware, P4,
Athlon, and Athlon64/754. I threw that stuff in the MB box so here it
is. The 754 hardware looks like a wall plate that covers a light
switch, with room for two lightswitches right next to each other in
the dead center of the plate. According to the instructions, this is
the backplate and goes under the motherboard. The two thumbscrew
things apparently go through the CPU board and into the backplate.
Then you screw the HSF into the back of the two thumbscrews, which
have an opening to hold the screws. Pretty clever.

I'm looking at a picture of the board and looking at the plate. I just
don't see how this is going to work. The picture shows the CPU socket
and what appears to be a plastic mount around it that says COTES. It
sure looks like the mount would have to be removed for this to have
any chance of fitting. Then the two screw positions visible in the
mount would be just where the thumbscrews would go through the board.
If those two screws in the COTES actually go through the board, I
think this will work. That gets removed, the screws go through into
the plate on the bottom, and the HSF attaches to the screws.

By thumbscrews I mean two screws that are designed to be turned by
hand. They're wide enough to grip and the non-screw side has a
receptacle for a screw to go in. Wow, that was clear as mud.

Anyway, I think it will work if that COTES mount can be removed. Good
luck.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

The Zalman website seems to claim that this cooler is compatible with all
socket 754 mobos. Quite a claim.

I am using that HSF on my system and it works fine. It doesn't perform any
better than the stock HSF, but it is quiet. It's easy to install if you
haven't installed you MB yet. On the K8T, you MUST use the back plate that
comes with the Zalman HSF. You can not use the one that came with the CPU or
with the MB. They're not the same. Also, do not use the fan speed controll
that comes with the fan. The MB controlls the speed of the fan just fine.
Also, without the speed controller, the motherboard is can squeeze about 300
more RPMs out of the fan when it's needed. If you want to overclock, do not
use this HSF. It's terrible for overclocking. The Retail HSF that came with
your Athlon 64 does a better job when overclocking than this Zalman 7000.
