Post subject: KG-7 Raid Ram Problems
Archived from groups: alt>comp>periphs>mainboard>abit (more info?)

I was wondering if someone can help me with a ram problem, I have a KG7
Raid. I had 2 sticks of 128mb pc2100 ram installed (in DIMMS 4 and 2, that's
the only way they would work) I had to reformat my hard drive due to a virus
I think. When I did that the first time I turned it on it gave me the
continuous beeps, and did so until I took out the stick in slot number 2. I
think that stick is bad however I went and bought a stick of 512mb pc2700,
and just installed that and got the continuous beeps again, the only
configuration that will work is one stick of 128mb pc2100 in DIMM 4. If
anyone can help me get my 512 stick to work I would greatly appreciate it,
Thanks in advance for any help. If more info is needed about my system
please let me know I will get it for you.

Christian

the ram slots on that board are supposed to be populated starting from slot
4 down to 1. slots 2 & 1 are special in that they share banks, if I recall.
You should try putting the 512 MB stick in slot 4 and the 128 in slot 3 and
keep in mind that the KG7 had the tightest ram slots of any board I ever
saw. be sure to support the board under the ram slots so that when you
firmly but carefully insert the sticks, the board does not flex and a poor
connection to the ram develop.

another way to do it would be to pull the board and set it on a flat surface
to ensure that you can firmly seat the ram.

guy at abit said only Kingston ram will work (that was his only suggestion
which is why i treid you guys i figured i would get much better answers!)
Thanks again

the statement that only Kingston will work it total BS. I ran Crucial and
Mushkin in my KG7. bios settings could certainly affect the issue.
