Just built this system.
MSI KM2M Combo-L 300w power.
Asus Geforce4 440SE MX 4x AGP
Athlon 2400+ XP w/ Thermalright SK6+ copper
Kingston 512mb PC2700 DDR (Micron chips)
40gb Western Digital 7200 rpm.
LiteOn 16x DVD-Rom
Sony 52x24x52x CDRW
Teac 1.44 Floppy
Iomega Zip250
SoundBlaster Live Value
WinXP Pro SP1

Works great!! But, when I try to add another DDR module, system wont boot to Windows. Gives from file missing error. Take second
module out , system returns to boot and work normally. I tried a 256 PC2100 PNY - a PC2700 KByte, and another Kingston 512 PC2700,
and still the same result.Manual says it can use up to a Gig each module for 2Gb total.

Any clues?? I tried the second Kingston by itself, and system runs perfectly, so the memory works. Just not the 2 together.

Did you buy the Kingstons at the same time? Just wondering.

One was from BestBuy, the other from CircuitCity. But they have the exact
same stats in SiSoft Sandra when I put one in at a time.

I even tried to boot WinXP from the CD to install on a fresh hard drive,
windows install starts, then crashes.

I'm running into this issue on an order of 160 systems at our factory.
We have tried 2 different vendors modules and have the same issue
using 266 or 333 speed DDR. the second module is the killer.
I'm troubleshooting a bench load of 18 systems. 4 of 18 display this
issue. Eithe file missing erros going into Windows XP Pro or blue
screens while just sitting there.
MSI has not been able to duplicate the issue yet. They have had our
memory for a day or so now. It is hard to troubleshoot as it isn't
consistant.
I will try to keep this group posed as what I find.

I tried 2 Kingston KVR333/512R modules. One was Mt chips (Micron)- the other just said Kingston D328DL-60 032OPT16. I tried One
Kingston, and one Kbyte 256mb w/ SpecTek chips (also Micron company). I even tried a PNY 256mb chips with SpecTek chips. I wonder
if it is a Micron issue also.

Let me know if you find a fix, cause so far, I can only use a single DDR slot. The board works great with the one 512, just that
1024 would be better Smile

MS-6738 Page 2-6 in the manual says you can use PC2700/PC2100/PC1600. They
lied.

Using a PC2700 Kingston KVR333/512R in the first slot wouldnt allow the use
of another slot (PC2700 of the same, or even a Crucial PC2100.

Just bought 2x 512mb sticks of Crucial PC2100 (on sale at BestBuy $39.99
after rebate). Put both in, set bank interleave to 4way, and WinXP booted up
with no problems. "Missing file" BS was gone.

I tend to think that the PC2700 (even though it says PC2100 compatible) was
messing up the timing for the second slot (even though it was an identical
Kingston stick).
