I am looking to purchase the Soyo KT400 Dragon Ultra board. I plan on
putting in an Athlon XP 2400+ CPU in there with 512 MB PC2100 (266) DDR RAM.
Since the max FSB of the 2400+ CPU is 266, this would be acceptable,
correct?

Would there be any advantage to putting in PC3200 (400) DDR sticks in with
the 266 FSB CPU? Or can I wait until I upgrade the CPU to one with a FSB of
333 or 400 mhz?

TIA,

-Tom

I have similar system (XP2400+, KT400DUP) using (2) 256mb PC2700 (DDR333)
sticks from Crucial
Running CPU at 266FSB and memory at 333. (benchmarked faster than memory at
266)

I was under the impression that running the memory asynchronously from
the fsb with any VIA chipset is undesirable. If the poster runs the 2400 at
266 fsb it would be best to run the ram at 266 as well. You talking memory
benchmark or system benchmark ?

Originally, so did I..........

System benchmark. Also, there is a distinct (observable) difference.

Many posters have been able to get this combination to post at 333FSB for
processor when not using AGP8x video card. I'm unfortunately using AGP8x
and was unable to get reliable post, so processor is running at 2394mHz
(slight OC) and memory at 333<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

I am running the KT400 DUP with a 2100+ tbred 166 fsb x12.5 with a
radeon 9500 pro, so it can be done. However you have to install the ram in
slot 1 and 3. tried all three slots the other day and it really fcked up my
machine for a day or so, eventually it came back to its senses ~ lol.
really, these soyo boards are finicky, but I love em anyway. rock solid
stable now. so you think I should run the ram at 400 ? it's at 333 right
now. I once had it at 2.2 GHz and outbenchmakred a barton 3000+ is Sandra,
lol not sure if thats acurate but it looked cool on screen ~

I have had the best performance running the busses syncroniously, ie
166mz.
Yes the KT 400 DUP is pickey about its ram. Currently I am running the
voltage at 2.7 as per the mfg'r. (2 sticks Corsair) The voltage will
affect the passing or failing of a RAM test. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
